THE “LAKE HARTWELL AREA RECREATION GUIDE” RELEASED

Travel book contains exciting things to do near Lake Hartwell

Lara Kaufmann wrote this book because she was always interested in fun things to do in the Lake Hartwell area. Lara and her husband enjoy exploring the area with their two boys who are always ready for an adventure. When family and friends of all ages would come to visit, the Kaufmann’s found themselves overwhelmed when trying to collect tourist information in such a large area. Lara has spent countless hours on the internet, visiting Georgia and South Carolina Welcome Centers, contacting convention and visitor’s bureaus and looking through phone directories to compile all the information found in this book. One day, she looked at the box of information that she had collected and thought "I would have loved for someone to have given me all this tourist information in one book". This book is her gift to you. The Lake Hartwell Area Recreation Guide is a thorough informative guide and will surely save you time. Lara has experienced most places in this book and has not been compensated by anyone to be included in this book.

Lake Hartwell is one of the most visited Corps lakes in the nation according to the Corp of Engineers web site, http://www.sas.usace.army.mil/lakes/hartwell/intro.htm. With that said, you'd think it would be crowded, but it is not. Because of its size, you can always find a private spot.

The Savannah, Tugaloo and Seneca Rivers all join to make Lake Hartwell, which provides opportunities for boating, water skiing, swimming and fishing. This man-made lake on the border of Georgia and South Carolina has 55,900 acres of water and about 962 miles of shoreline.

The lake is surrounded by parks, farm land, cute towns and fun cities, which all make for a fantastic time. They provide great views, outdoor adventures and all kinds of fun activities. The cities and towns each have a different feel to them. Each one has characteristics that may make them worth visiting, depending on your interests.

When asked where most of the Lake Hartwell visitors come from, Jo Anna White, Manager of the Lake Hartwell State Recreation Area said "Many are from the Tri State area of North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia but because of the lake being so close to the interstate we have travelers from most of the East Coast States that are traveling north and south."

The “Lake Hartwell Area Recreation Guide” may be used in two ways:

First, you can look up things that interest you to find the towns and cities that offer these activities. Included is information about art galleries, biking, birding, boating, renting boats, bowling, disc golf, golf, local farms, fishing, fitness, hiking, horseback riding, movie theatres, museums, night life, performing arts, roller skating, skateparks, sporting events, tennis, waterfalls, wine tasting and zoos. Second, you can look under a particular city or town to find what activities are there. Included is information about Anderson, Athens, Belton, Central, Clarkesville, Clemson, Comer, Commerce, Easley, Elberton, Fair Play, Gainesville, Greenville, Greer, Hartwell, Iva, Jefferson, Lavonia, Long Creek, Marietta, Maysville, Mountain Rest, Pelzer, Pendleton, Pickens, Royston, Seneca, Six Mile, Starr, Tallulah Falls, Toccoa, Townville, Walhalla, Westminster and Williamston.

When told that the Trio Cafe on Main Street in Greenville, SC was included in this guide, Kip Wynne said, "That is great. My parents had a vacation home on Lake Hartwell for many years and we have many great memories from there. The information is correct and we appreciate being included in the book."

Holly Lombardo, a University of Georgia in Athens graduate said "I didn't know that Athens had a free zoo and nature center. I'll have to take my son there sometime soon."

After hearing about the book, Terri Horne, a Williamston, SC resident, said, "I was a ranger for the Corps of Engineers on Lake Hartwell for almost 10 years before leaving to become a full time mommy. I may just have to order one!"

Laura Lampron, a metro Atlanta area resident who frequently vacations in the Lake Hartwell Area, said, "I can't wait to get a copy and start using it!"

Author Lara Kaufmann along with her sister Julie Chapman took many trips around the United States with parents, Al Grauer and Paula Moore. As teachers, her parents could take summers off and they would head out in their International Harvester Scout pulling their pup tent trailer. Sometimes she and her sister got to help choose the campground and they always requested "FLUSH" toilets! These fun adventures introduced her to her love of travel.

Kaufmann graduated from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and she has been married for 11 years to Carr Kaufmann, who graduated from Clemson University. He introduced her to the Upstate and opened her eyes to the world of travel and seeking adventure.

Kaufmann, the stay-at-home mother of two young sons, Christopher and Michael, enjoys spending time with her family in the Lake Hartwell Area. On long road trips with her boys she is now paying for all the times she asked her parents, "When will we be there?"

Kaufmann enjoys traveling, reading, boating and spending time with her family and friends.
